Happy Birthday, Cornerstone
Written by Richard Vahrman

The Cornerstone Community Centre is our local community centre and it recently celebrated its 15th anniversary with a grand get together to display all of its activities. When it opened in a converted part of St John's Church, many people were not sure it would be a success- but they were wrong!

Currently it is used by 55 community groups and runs a children's centre - about 1,000 people attend each week. It has created a real partnership with the local community and shows how a large church can be converted for this community whilst still retaining an active congregation, even if this meets in a smaller space!

The children's centre was set up with the active support of our councilors. It is held on Wednesdays between 12:30 to 2:30 for children up to 5 years old. It also acts as a help and advice centre, and an experienced health visitor is always available for consultation.
