4Delivery, the contractors currently replacing sewers, have sent a letter detailing the work to be carried out in Brunswick Terrace in the very near future. The following is an extract - go to "read more" to see it in its entirety. "The new sewer in Lansdowne Place, being constructed by our contractors 4Delivery, is nearly complete. The next phase of the works will begin soon to construct a new sewer in Brunswick Terrace and a pumping station under the pavement, next to the temporary site compound. Because these works are so close to properties in Brunswick Terrace, building condition surveys were carried out prior to the start of the work, and the techniques used to construct the sewer have been specifically designed to minimise vibration. The effects of the work will be monitored throughout the duration of the scheme." The letter in full Dear CustomerWestern Road, Hove Wastewater flood protection scheme I am writing to let you know about the progress of the environmental improvement works in Lansdowne Place and Brunswick Terrace. The new sewer in Lansdowne Place, being constructed by our contractors 4Delivery, is nearly complete. The effects of the work will be monitored throughout the duration of the scheme. The proposed programme of works is outlined below Brunswick Terrace West Approximately 7 weeks Work will begin in Brunswick Terrace West on Monday 6th August. For the first week, work will take place at the junction of Lansdowne Place and Brunswick Terrace West. This junction will be closed to traffic, and unfortunately several parking bays will be suspended. For a further six weeks or so, there will be no vehicle access to Brunswick Terrace West and all parking bays will be suspended while the new sewer is built. Brunswick Terrace East Approximately 10 weeks Once the current works in Lansdowne Place are complete the road closures at each end of Lansdowne Place will be removed, and work will begin in Brunswick Terrace East. From around mid August for approximately five weeks, the road opposite numbers 32-26 will be closed, while the eastern end (opposite numbers 26-20) will remain open. From around the end of September for approximately five weeks, the road opposite numbers 26-20 will be closed, and the western end (opposite numbers 32-26) will be re-opened. To install the new sewer between Brunswick Terraces East and West, our contractors will build a tunnel under Lansdowne Place, enabling Lansdowne Place to remain open and minimising inconvenience to residents and motorists. Southern Water is installing individual water connections in Lansdowne Place as part of the city-wide water mains renewal works. Upon completion, 4Delivery will remove the temporary surface, and finish with a permanent road covering. To thank local residents for their patience during our works, Southern Water and 4Delivery will build a pedestrian island at the southern end of Lansdowne Place, at the junction with Brunswick Terrace, and this will help pedestrians when crossing the wide section of road. The pedestrian island was proposed by the Lansdowne Area Residents’ Association, and has been designed by Brighton and Hove City Council. We are sorry for the temporary disruption and loss of parking, but we will get the work done as quickly as we can. The safety of the public and the workforce is our highest priority and we adopt safe working practices at all times. Nevertheless, you are asked to take care in the vicinity of the works and I would particularly ask you to advise children of the dangers of playing near any construction work not only while work is in progress, but also outside working hours. If you have any immediate queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our customer services office on 0845 278 0845. Calls are charged at local rates. Yours sincerely Chris Featherstone Operational Services Manager
