Bogus callers and other scams |

We are getting a lot of bogus callers and telephone and computer scams that we must be aware of. Computer scams vary but if you are uncertain of a message, delete. Telephone scams tell you "This is not an advert. Press ? to claim your prize." End the call pressing nothing. Bogus callers are reported in the Portslade, Woodingdean and Crawley areas. Men dressing as police officers try to gain entry by telling the occupant that someone was seen on the roof. One elderly lady refused them entry and reported it immediately, but others have lost cash, keys and personal belongings. One male and one female are calling people offering insulation and try to engage in a personal conversation. Do not engage, ask for their company name and dial 1471, reporting it to the police if you can. If you are suspicious of anything or anyone call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 99, or your local PCSO on the last number extension 21611
